PFI Initiatives and Government Outsourcing – Are they on the increase?

Since the appointment of the new Government and their announcements of a decrease in public spending affecting public sector outsourcing and the scrapping of the “Building Schools for the Future” scheme, it would seem that there has been an increase in the amount of public sector tenders going out to private sector organisations.

Although the stance within Government was very much to decrease the amount of services delivered via an outsourcing model, the reality is simply that the governments need to outsource is too great to minimise this by too great an extent.

Since the beginning of the year, some of the leading players in the market have noted an increase in their order book which can only boost confidence.  Backed by the Government’s announcement of a £2 billion spend to support the development of 300 new schools using the PFI procurement method, it can only be a matter of time before specialist Facilities Management providers will be looking to increase their headcount for the delivery of such projects.

With this being said, the new school development scheme will increase competition amongst providers allowing those that may have missed out in the last scheme to have a second crack at the whip.

For those professionals with PFI experience who found themselves out of work due to the initial decrease in these schemes, it certainly sounds positive that more opportunities in this area will be making their way to the market.

At Foundation Recruitment, we expect to see an increase in roles of this nature and as part of the continued growth of our Facilities Management sector; we would happily invite candidates to contact us in preparation for these opportunities.
