State of play in the regions - Construction
Date Posted: 12/08/2011
In terms of the current regional construction landscape our experience at Foundation Recruitment is that there are certainly increasing opportunities for construction professionals, particularly Building Surveyors who have been the best insulated of the construction professions. Quantity Surveying is certainly starting to recover regionally, however Project Management, Architecture and Urban Design etc. will take much longer to recover.
There are of course exceptions to the rules. These positions are never advertised and come from Foundation Recruitments intrinsic understanding of our clients current wider business needs and their long term aspirations, these include:
-
Replacement for those retiring, leaving or being promoted.
-
Business Development individuals with either pet client’s, credible contacts (Funds etc.) ability to cross-sell or a proven track record of growth.
-
Specific skill-sets such as Health or Retail across all professions to build on existing business or diversify into other sectors.
-
Recently qualified, (1-3yr PQE) from Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying or Project Management.
-
The developers are back in the major cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds and there is a buzz in the marketplace and needs are being identified (shortage of grade A office space and hotels etc). They are back because there is opportunity but the question is how long funding will take and how sustainable the pipeline of work is.
-
There is opportunity in Government policy with Planning legislation now in favour of development (with the planning policy framework decoupling the notion that economic growth equals environmental degradation) in addition there are new public sector procurement possibilities (white paper review of James review) as well as Local Enterprise zones etc.
At Foundation Recruitment we are ideally placed to assist our clients in sourcing the best individuals and finding the best positions for our candidates.
